Synopsis: This is an unabridged recording of You Only Die Twice.
The Miami News reporter Britt Montero covers the police beat: she frequents the murder scenes and police buildings. Britt is intrigued when a body of a beautiful woman is washed on the beach not far from Britt's home. The woman is missing all identifying information, and it takes days to discover her origins. However, when her identity is finally uncovered, the mystery becomes truly intense—the woman was believed to be dead years ago, and her death the start of a famous murder trial.
Full Review: The mystery itself is solid, suspenseful and full of twists. The characters are well-fleshed out and the narration skillful.
The flaw in the book is the lack of truly appealing characters. Britt herself, despite being a generally sympathetic first-person narrator, has several traits which tend to dilute the reader's sympathy. Thus while the resolution to the mystery (or rather several mysteries) is very satisfying, following a long, tense build-up, the emotional payoff for the reader is only moderate.
Overall: 5.5; Plot: 6; Characters: 5; Style: 5.5; World-building: 6; Originality: 6;
