A pleasant mixture of congregational politics, state politics and murder investigation, the mystery has the cosy feel of a small town.

Synopsis: David Small is the rabbi of the small Jewish community in Barnard's Crossing, Massachusetts. While low-key, he is adamant on matters of principle, and his stance brings him in conflict with the rich and influential president of the temple. Simultaneously, he gets concerned when a neighbor of his, a young jewish student is arrested for a deadly hit-and-run accident.
The subsequent investigation finds strange parallels in the two problems.
Full Review: The simplified but generally likable characters seem to populate Rabbi Small's world, and his astute observations provide a useful and enjoyable light in uncovering both crimes and human motivations. While sometimes intrusive, the rather one-sided monologues on Judaism provide an interesting to the portrayal of jewish life.
