A funny, but ultimately pointless plot exposing a juxtaposition of classes in England, this book substitutes situational humor for plot or character excitement.

Synopsis: This is a full text narration of The Queen and I.
One fine morning after an election, Elizabeth II wakes up to a Republican government. Suddenly, the monarchy is ablished, and the Queen, and her entire family are forced to live in council housing, in one of the poorest neighborhoods in England.
Full Review: The progressively more ludicrous adventures of the formerly Royal family are interposed smoothly with a poignant description of the desperations and occasional joys of the poor and neglected inhabitants of Hellbore Close. While skillfully done, the material for a short story is stretched to novel length in this book. Situational comedy and dollops of irony, regrettably, do not suffice for this book: the lack of an novel-worthy plot quickly exhausts the reader's patience.
