A humorous, sometimes ironic and at other times farcical mystery, is mostly fun and is filled with mouth-watering, savoring hints of French cuisine.

Synopsis: This is an unabridged recording of Monsieur Pamplemousse Investigates.

Monsieur Pamplemousse, an inspector at the culinary magazine Le Guide, is asked by the Director to investigate the sabotage of the widely anticipated new edition of the prestigious magazine. As M. Pamplemousse delves deeper into the intricacies of the computer break-in, what started as a prank is beginning to appear as the deadly series plot against both the magazine and its head.

Luckily, his faithful canine companion, Pommes Frites, stands ready to help, whether with the delectable dishes or subtle detection. While the communication between the master and the dog are not always perfect, they make one formidable—if often amuzing—team.

Full Review: The humor is frequently slapstick in this comedy of an investigation, but the parody of the French and particularly their obsession with food is mixed with details of genuine affection for both. In the end, the combination works, and provides amusement on the way, as this affection results in hunger for both the food, and the kindness that sprinkles the novel.

The plot is simple, and serves mostly as a skeleton for this comedy of manners. A large part of the charm of this novel is the canine companion, and his simple but insightful outlook on the events.

Overall: 5.5; Plot: 5; Characters: 5.5; Style: 6; World-building: 6; Originality: 6;
