Highly predictable, this mildly entertaining romance is improved by occasionaly humor and lack of pretension.

Genre: Romance (Western)

Synopsis: Maggie Drummond, a young woman in a dusty western town, has small dreams. She wants to have a family, a comfortable home, and someone to love. Meeting a handsome cowboy is an occasion for daydreams in her dreary life—but what if the cowboy dreams about her?

Full Review: The plot of this modern Western romance can be predicted in the first few pages of the book. The characters do not harbor surprises, and the unsympathetic ones (there are no true villains) are entirely two-dimensional in their lack of attractive qualities.

The protagonists, while suspiciously straightforward, are much more sympathetic. Except for obligatory (and annoying) mutual misunderstandings, they are rational, intelligent, self-deprecating, and sometimes quite funny.

In short, this novel has little suspense—but the while the path to conclusion is obvious, it is enjoyable to traverse nonetheless.

Overall: 5; Plot: 5.5; Characters: 6; Style: 6; World-building: 6; Originality: 5.5;
