Synopsis: This is an unabridged recording of Listening Woman. Joe Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police investigates the seamingly senseless murder of two Navajo. As he follows up on the clues provided by an old blind woman—the title character—other crimes committed by a terrorist Indian organization take up the attention of the police. As Leaphorn gets closer to the perpetrators, he comes into deadly danger from the ruthless and well-equipped opponents.

Full Review: In this early adventure, Leaphorn becomes separated from his department fairly early, and involves in gardually accelerating plot. In the stark beauty of the American Southwest, Leaphorn's persistent and insightful investigation leads him into a confrontation with his enemies.

Unlike many other novels in this series, a lot of the book is concerned with the protagonist's survival, with adventures reminiscent of a classic Western. The villains are larger than life, and provide all the danger such an adventure needs.

A pleasant and quite suspenseful mystery, this book is a solid foundation for Joe Leaphorn, an intelligent and realistic hero who fits perfectly into his environment.
