A competently romance, with an unnecessary paranormal element, and predictability of the plot and characters that results in lack of suspense or excitement.

Synopsis: Kate has looked forward to settling down with Gareth Blackthorne, in the small town of Eden. Enjoying his loving family, as well as Gareth's reliability and kindness, she looked forward to the marriage. When Gareth's brother Nick comes home after several years away, Kate is attracted by Nick's tragic history, and his dark sensuality. But is this enough to threaten her well-planned future, and her deep affection for Gareth?
Full Review: While this book is well-written, with a wealth of pleasant detail, the characters behave in very predictable ways. A number of standard romantic plot devices are used—not necessarily detracting from the plot, but not adding much suspense or humor, either. The secondary characters are pleasant, but the primary memebers of the resulting triangle fulfill their steretyped roles precisely.
The paranormal element seems to add little to the story—and could be left out with no change to the plot. Overall, despite its competence, this novel does not provide much entertainment value.
Overall: 5; Plot: 4; Characters: 4.5; Style: 5.5; World-building: 5.5; Originality: 4.5;
