Full Review: This is an unabridged recording of The Elusive Mrs. Pollifax.
With her husband dead and children grown, Emily Pollifax is restless in her independent life with the Garden Club and the local charities. After applying for a job as a spy at the CIA, she is reluctantly is used by her nervous superiors when a lack of known intelligence association and an obvious demeanor of a tourist are vital.
The grandmotherly courier is called upon to deliver assistance to the fragile opposition in Bulgaria. In this, one of the most controlled of the East-bloc countries, Mrs. Pollifax runs into a deadly plot, which distracts her from her original assignment. At stake are innocent lives—and a treacherous scheme by a ruthless officer.
Following up on similar adventures, this intallment pits the irrepressible Mrs. Pollifax, her courage, humor and resourcefulness against the secret police and rigid bureaucracy of a Brezhnev-style government.
Full of pleasant characters, daring adventures and slightly improbable coincidences, the humor and pace of the book provide solid, if superficial, entertainment.
